Focuses on primary Hebrew listening comprehension and vocabulary through interactive, experiential learning. The Jewish curriculum is taught through the use of storytelling, songs, nursery rhymes, and art, and highlights the basic aspects of Jewish holidays and symbols.

JRoots operates 2 JK and 3 SK classes. An appreciation of Jewish culture is fostered through circle activities, poetry, storytelling, music, visual arts. Hebrew vocabulary of 150 words is developed through the use of cards, props, songs, and introduction for daily expressions.

JRoots operates multiple 6 Alef classes for new and returning students on Sundays or Thursdays for students in elementary grades. A 360 word Hebrew vocabulary is the goal for Alef students, which we develop through basic Hebrew listening comprehension and communication skills development. Jewish holiday exploration includes historical background of heroes, symbols and customs, along with presentations to parents.

Pre-requisites for Kita Bet-Gimel-Dalet-Hey include basic or intermediate Hebrew listening comprehension (completion of Beginner level) and ability to read Hebrew using shortcuts (Nikud). Language of instruction during the Hebrew lessons is simplified Hebrew. More than half of the class time is dedicated to Hebrew literacy and vocabulary.

Hebrew language is not new for advanced students. They practice their language skills with beautiful learning units specially develops for them: Naomi Shemer, Hasidut, newspaper Yanshuf. The group is taught Hebrew in Hebrew, and frequently present its knowledge to younger JRooters.

These programs are non-competitive, non-contact, high energy, safe, structured and fantastic fun. Each week age appropriate skills, drills and game of a new exciting sport will be taught, including Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis, Lacrosse & more.

This Saxophone Band rehearse Jewish Musical compositions and perform regularly for the school and community events. Private saxophone classes on Mondays or Thursdays is a pre-requisite for participation.

SCHOOL POLICIES

CHARITABLE TAX RECEIPT
All tuition fees and any charitable donations are fully tax deductable. Tax receipts will be mailed by the Schwartz/Reisman Centre’s accounting department upon full payment.
FINANCIAL POLICIES
The deposit amount is to be provided at the time of registration. The deposit fee is non-refundable and will be deducted from the annual tuition fee. Payments can be made via post-dated cheques payable to the Schwartz/Reisman Centre, Visa/Mastercard or by cash. The deadline for full payment submission is September 15th, 2013.
DRESS CODE
As the J.Roots team strives to create a unique school –with an all-encompassing atmosphere, all J.Rooters and staffs are asked to respect the special dress code: J.Roots t-shirt / staff hoodie. Dress code for events is a long sleeve white shirt, J.Roots royal blue t-shirt, black pants and nice shoes.
RESPECT AND DISCIPLINE
Our learning environment is warm and welcoming and follows Derech Eretz. Should discipline become an issue, parents will be notified and will be asked to meet with the J.Roots Director to resolve the issue. It is the responsibility of the parent to be aware of dates for events, days off, and respecting the pick-up and drop-off times.
WITHDRAWALS AND/OR REFUNDS
A written notice must be provided one-month prior in order to withdraw from J. Roots Supplementary Jewish School. Cancelations/withdrawals between September 1st –December 1st are subject to prorated refunds. Refunds are not available for cancelations after December 1st, 2019.
SNACKS
J. Roots students are requested to bring a nut-free kosher snack to the class in a lunch bag. Please send snacks in a lunch bag, separately from the J.Roots bag with learning materials. Students above the age of 10, have the option to purchase their snack at Paradise Café and the vending machines. Only students whose parents signed a special consent (on the parental permission form) will be allowed to leave the class during the break.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES DRESS
Students should arrive for class 5-10 minutes early to let the teacher start class on time.
J.Roots students ages 3-10 will be dismissed only to parents or guardians listed on the registration form. Should you wish for someone other than the parents/guardians to pick up your child, please submit the name and relationship to the J.Roots teacher, which will ask for identification in order to dismiss the child.
